Day 6 for Poem A Day Challenge

Okay, we are on Day 6 of the Poetry Challenge and somehow I am managing to write two different poems a day. Here is the one I wrote for April 6.

April 6:
Prompt: Write an ekphrastic poem using any work of art

Monet_Water_Lilies_1916.jpg
Floating - Based on Monet's Water Lillies

Adrift on the azure water
lavender circles seem placed by the artist
yet I know he is only showing us
his own vision of the real scene
and we are not privy to the underside
of these perfect circular plants
unaware of the stems descending beneath
the surface and how they attach to the
floor of the pond -- not floating
yet appearing to be free
reminds me of so many lives
people who seem unfettered
their air as if they were floating
in the winds of existence
seem to be swaying in the current
are they tethered somewhere
beyond our vision
invisible ties unseen by our eyes
like the water lilies appearing to be
perfect circles and instead have
an anchor they hide from the outside world
as they glide through their days
adrift in the waters of life

If you are reading this blog, please write a comment to tell me what you think and maybe add your own poem if you want. I always like to read other people's poetry.

Until the next time, I will try to post each day. Happy poeming everyone.

    1. Thank you!!! I really loved the prompt and this painting. It's amazing what goes through your mind when you are thinking about art in this way.
